To blog or not to blog
In our oversaturated digital world, business owners want to know…
Why have a blog?
Do I need a blog?
What do I do with my blogs?
If you have ever wondered why blogging is important to your business strategy, then this blog is for you. There is no limit to what a bespoke, well-curated blog can accomplish, but these are the top three reasons why every company website needs a blog.
1. Content marketing
Unless you are selling products and have a large marketing budget, an outbound marketing strategy is most likely not going to work for you. Most companies, especially service-based companies and small business owner, see greater ROI with a good inbound marketing approach – which means you need a good content marketing strategy. (Examples of content marketing include blogs/articles, videos, podcasts, webinars, infographics, social media posts, etc.)
Blogging – good, SEO-friendly, well-curated, and well-formatted blogging – is a core component to a good content marketing strategy. By generating organic, original, on-brand content that speaks directly to your Target Audience (TA), you establish a strong foundation for additional content marketing efforts while demonstrating your subject matter expertise. Most importantly, you cultivate brand trust. Every time you offer helpful, inspirational, or entertaining content to potential clients, you become a trusted resource for your Ideal Client (IC).
Content marketing initiatives like blogging, newsletters, etc. also allows you to keep a conversation going with those clients while they’re considering your services. The fact is most prospective clients won’t convert right away. They need time to think about it, do more research, and plan. The more useful and positive their interactions with you are, the more likely they are to choose you over your competition when they're ready to convert.
2. Boost your SEO
Consistently adding quality content to your website boosts your SEO. Although Bing and AI are changing the digital landscape, every website is still very much at the mercy of the Google Algorithm. If you do not consistently update your website content with relevant, organic, SEO-friendly content, Google’s crawlers will act like your website doesn't exist, and your website will fall further and further down on the Search Engine Results Page (SERP).
Think of the world wide web like a massive library, and think of Google as the Librarian. Your website represents a book, and every time you update your website/book with new, useful content, the librarian (Google) sends a technician (a crawler) to catalogue (index) your new content. The more this process successfully happens, the easier it is for the Google algorithm to favor your website’s content – which means more web traffic, more client leads, higher domain authority (DA), and better SEO.
3. Build your brand-value proposition
A good blog can do so much more than nurture leads and improve your SEO. Blogging is a powerful way to build your brand and attract publicity. If done properly, blogging is excellent branding because it presents you as a reputable subject matter expert to not just your clients - but the world. By showcasing yourself as an authoritative source of information within your industry and market, you can strategically position yourself for compelling opportunities including speaking gigs, podcast interviews, affiliate sponsorships, etc.
Summary – The bottom line
Ultimately, a blog is an excellent tool to accomplish your business goals. For instance, if you sell a product, your blog may take a sales-oriented approach and focus on educating your clients on how to use your product. If you are a service-based business, you may use your blogs to address the primary concerns your ideal client faces – particularly the ones that position your company’s services as the solution. With that said...
